God Speaks & Creation Listens (11/12)- God Controls & Tells the Ground to Open and Swallow People

In Numbers 16:31-33, we see one of the most jaw-dropping moments in Scripture—literally. The ground opens up and swallows Korah, his followers, and all their possessions. It’s a dramatic display of God’s authority over creation, showing us that nothing—absolutely nothing—is exempt from His power. Not kings, not animals, and certainly not the earth beneath our feet.
The Backstory: Who, Why, and What Happened?
Korah, a Levite, along with Dathan, Abiram, and 250 other leaders, decided they’d had enough of Moses and Aaron calling the shots. They rebelled, accusing Moses and Aaron of exalting themselves above God’s people. Essentially, Korah and his crew thought they deserved a piece of the spiritual spotlight.
Here’s how Moses responded:
“You have gone too far, sons of Levi! Is it not enough for you that the God of Israel has separated you from the rest of the Israelite community to bring you near Himself to do the work at the Lord’s tabernacle?” (Numbers 16:7-9, NIV)
But Korah wasn’t having it. He wanted power, prestige, and the priesthood for himself. His rebellion wasn’t just against Moses and Aaron; it was a direct challenge to God’s authority and His divine order.
The Showdown: God Responds
Moses set the stage, giving Korah and his followers a chance to repent. Spoiler alert: they didn’t. So,
Moses delivered a bold declaration:
“If these men die a natural death and suffer the fate of all mankind, then the Lord has not sent me. But if the Lord brings about something totally new, and the earth opens its mouth and swallows them, with everything that belongs to them, and they go down alive into the realm of the dead, then you will know that these men have treated the Lord with contempt.” (Numbers 16:29-30, NIV)

Cue the divine mic drop:
“As soon as he finished saying all this, the ground under them split apart and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them and their households, and all those associated with Korah, together with their possessions. They went down alive into the realm of the dead, with everything they owned. The earth closed over them, and they perished.” (Numbers 16:31-33, NIV)

Why Did This Happen?
The purpose was clear: to demonstrate that God’s authority is not up for debate. Korah’s rebellion was a direct attack on God’s chosen leaders, and by extension, on God Himself. Through this extraordinary act, God made it known that He alone is sovereign and that creation itself will obey His commands to execute His will.
When the world feels like it’s spiraling out of control, remember this: the same God who spoke and the earth obeyed is still in charge. If He can command the ground to open and close, He can handle your circumstances.
Nothing in this life is exempt from God’s authority—not nature, not leaders, not your problems. Not who the president is, not what the news says (whether it’s fake or real), not the NWO, not billionaires, not the unknown powers pushing their agendas, and not even the dark spiritual forces trying to destroy mankind and oppose God’s plan.
God’s authority is absolute, and His victory is certain. The battle has already been won because His plan was completed before time began. So, take a deep breath. No matter how chaotic the world seems, God’s plan is in motion, and He remains fully in control.
Where in your life are you resisting God’s authority, like Korah and his crew? Trust that His plan is better than yours, and surrender to His divine order. Creation obeys Him without question—shouldn’t we?
