"Kingdom Living: Embracing God's Principles in a World of Opposites"
Updated: May 3, 2023
Living in God's Kingdom requires a mindset that is often opposite to that of the world's culture. Here are some principles that are important for believers to live by:
Love vs. Selfishness: In the world's culture, selfishness is often valued and promoted as a way to get ahead. However, in the Kingdom of God, love is the primary principle that governs all actions. Jesus himself taught in Matthew 22:37-39, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and most important commandment. The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself."
Humility vs. Pride: The world values pride and self-promotion, but the Kingdom of God values humility. Proverbs 11:2 says, "When pride comes, disgrace follows, but with humility comes wisdom." Jesus also taught in Matthew 23:12, "Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted."

Forgiveness vs. Retaliation: The world promotes revenge and holding grudges, but the Kingdom of God calls for forgiveness. In Matthew 5:38-39, Jesus said, "You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.' But I tell you, don't resist an evildoer. On the contrary, if anyone slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also."
Contentment vs. Materialism: The world's culture values material possessions and the pursuit of wealth, but the Kingdom of God values contentment and the pursuit of righteousness. In 1 Timothy 6:6-8, it says, "But godliness with contentment is a great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with these."
Generosity vs. Greed: The world promotes a mindset of accumulation and hoarding, while the Kingdom of God values generosity and giving. Proverbs 11:24-25 says, "One person gives freely, yet gains more; another withholds what is right, only to become poor. A generous person will be enriched, and the one who gives a drink of water will receive water."
Honesty vs. Deceit: The world often values deception and manipulation for personal gain, while the Kingdom of God values honesty and integrity. Proverbs 12:22 says, "Lying lips are detestable to the Lord, but faithful people are his delight."
Love vs. Hate: The world promotes hatred and division, while the Kingdom of God values love and unity. 1 John 4:20-21 says, "If anyone says, 'I love God,' and yet hates his brother or sister, he is a liar. For the person who does not love his brother or sister whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. And we have this command from him: The one who loves God must also love his brother and sister."

Faith vs. Fear: The world often operates out of fear and anxiety, while the Kingdom of God values faith and trust in God's provision. 2 Timothy 1:7 says, "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but one of power, love, and sound judgment."
Peace vs. Anxiety: The world is filled with turmoil and anxiety, while the Kingdom of God offers peace that surpasses all understanding. Philippians 4:6-7 says, "Don't worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus."
These are just a few more examples of the opposing principles between the Kingdom of God and the world's culture, but there are many more that can be found throughout scripture. It is important to daily use self-control against the pull of the world and the masses. There is a right way to live. Honor God in all you do!
When you honor God, He delights in you and blesses you. Honoring God means recognizing His authority, obeying His commandments, and giving Him the respect and reverence that He deserves.
In the Bible, there are numerous examples of God's response to those who honor Him. Here are a few examples:
Blessings: When we honor God with our lives, He blesses us with provision, protection, and favor. Proverbs 3:9-10 says, "Honor the Lord with your possessions and with the first produce of your entire harvest; then your barns will be completely filled, and your vats will overflow with new wine."
Guidance: When we seek to honor God with our decisions and actions, He guides us along the right path. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; in all your ways know him, and he will make your paths straight."
Joy: When we honor God with our worship and obedience, we experience the joy of His presence. Psalm 16:11 says, "You reveal the path of life to me; in your presence is abundant joy; at your right hand are eternal pleasures."
Protection: When we honor God by seeking His protection and refuge, He shields us from harm. Psalm 91:14-15 says, "Because he has his heart set on me, I will deliver him; I will protect him because he knows my name. When he calls out to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble. I will rescue him and give him honor."
Overall, when we honor God with our lives, we experience the joy and blessings of His presence and protection.
