"Approaching Transgender Issues with Love, Respect, and Biblical Wisdom"
Updated: May 8, 2023
The issue of transgenderism is a complex and sensitive topic, and Christians may have differing perspectives on how to handle it according to scripture. However, there are some general principles that can guide Christians in their approach:
1. Love and respect all people. Christians are called to love all people, regardless of their gender identity. This means treating them with dignity, respect, and kindness, and avoiding discrimination or prejudice.

2. Seek God's guidance through prayer and scripture. Christians should seek God's guidance through prayer and reading the Bible. This can help them to better understand God's will and how to respond to transgender issues.
3. Recognize the value of human life. Christians believe that all human life is created in the image of God and has inherent value and dignity. This means that they should treat transgender people with compassion and empathy, recognizing their struggles and affirming their worth as human beings.
4. Uphold biblical teachings on gender and sexuality. While showing love and respect to transgender people, Christians also need to uphold biblical teachings on gender and sexuality. This includes the belief that God created humans male and female. Genesis 1:27 says: "So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them." This verse affirms that both males and females are created in the image of God and have inherent value and dignity. It also affirms that God created humans as male and female, each with their unique and complementary roles and characteristics and that sexual intimacy is reserved for marriage between a man and a woman.
5. Matthew 19:4-6 says: "Haven't you read," he replied, "that at the beginning the Creator 'made them male and female,' and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh'? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate." This passage affirms God's design for marriage as a union between a man and a woman, and emphasizes the permanence of this union as God's intended plan. It also references the creation account in Genesis, affirming the complementary nature of male and female.
6. Seek to understand and support those struggling with gender dysphoria. Gender dysphoria is a real and difficult struggle for many people, and Christians can seek to understand and support them through prayer, listening, and offering practical help and resources.
Overall, Christians can handle transgender issues by approaching them with love, respect, and biblical wisdom, while also seeking to understand and support those who are struggling with gender dysphoria.
